RIO’s new ESP
(Extremely Sensitive Performance) tippet has almost no stretch, providing unbelievable bite detection. These qualities make it an ideal leader and tippet material for stillwater trout fishing. Unlike standard nylon or fluorocarbon, ESP is a unique compound with one-third the stretch of fluorocarbon.
When fly fishing lakes, stillwater trout can take flies incredibly softly, especially small nymphs and chironomid pupa and larvae patterns. This makes bite detection challenging. ESP tippet addresses these presentation challenges, whether you are suspending flies under indicators, fishing small patterns on floating or Midge Tip lines with long leaders, or using more active retrieves with sinking lines.
Blend ESP into your deepwater indicator rigs to reduce leader stretch, so that when fishing deep water with releasing indicators, they trip easily. No more issues of indicators refusing to release due to the inherent stretch of other tippet materials.

ESP is chemically distinct from nylon and fluorocarbon and has density and clarity properties that fall between the two. ESP is faster than nylon but slower than fluorocarbon, less visible than nylon but not as invisible underwater as fluorocarbon
