Oros Indicators are the perfect option when fishing shallow depths where the distance between your fly and indicator is the same as or less than your rod length. They are also an excellent choice when fishing in windy conditions, such as Nevada's Pyramid Lake or Argentina's Lago Strobel, AKA, Jurassic Lake.
Here are some benefits of using an OROS indicator
-
Exceptional Wind Performance: Stillwater fly fishing often involves large, exposed bodies of water where wind is a constant factor. The Oros indicators are specifically recommended for "blustery destinations" like Pyramid or Jurassic Lake. Their aerodynamic, spherical design cuts through the wind better than traditional yarn or bulky foam indicators, allowing for longer, more accurate casts even when the breeze picks up.
-
Ideal for Shallow Water Stealth: When fishing shallow flats or shoals, the distance between your fly and your indicator is often shorter than your rod length. The Oros design is streamlined and lacks protruding hardware (like pegs or heavy plastic nuts), making it much easier to cast short leaders without tangling. This allows for a more delicate presentation in shallow water where trout are easily spooked.
-
"Soft-Lock" Security & Leader Protection: Stillwater trout are often large and powerful. The "soft-lock" technology ensures that the indicator stays exactly where you put it without kinking or damaging your leader. By unscrewing the two halves and locking the line in the moulded groove, you get a secure grip that won't slip during a hard cast, yet remains gentle on the mono/fluorocarbon.
-
Adaptability for Technical Rigs: For anglers using very fine tippets to fool wary stillwater trout, the Oros indicator is highly adaptable. By "sandwiching" the indicator between two Bobber Stoppers, you can ensure 100% slip-resistance on even the thinnest diameters, allowing you to fish flies with total confidence.
-
High Visibility in All Light Conditions: Stillwater light and windy conditions can change rapidly. Our three-pack includes:
Orange: High visibility for choppy water and low light.
White: Excellent for bright days or when you want the indicator to look like natural foam to avoid spooking fish.
Pink: Highly visible against dark water backgrounds.
-
Precise Buoyancy Control: With two sizes available (Small, 0.6", and Medium, 0.8"), you can perfectly match your indicator to the weight of your fly. Use the Small for delicate presentations in light winds, and the Medium for heavier, balanced leeches, multi-fly rigs, or windy conditions, ensuring your indicator sits high on the surface for instant strike detection.
Oros strike indicators feature soft-lock technology. Here is how to use them:
- Unscrew the indicator into two halves
- Place your leader into the goved slot in the male half
- Screw both halves back together to lock them in place.
When using these indicators on finer-diameter tippet, sandwich them between two of our Bobber Stops to prevent accidental slippage.
Our OROS indicators are available in small and large sizes and come in a three-pack of orange, white, and pink, providing you with the best colour options for varying water conditions.
